I'm not a big movie watcher. But I cannot resist a movie with a great soundtrack. In fact, I think the soundtrack is a big deciding factor on whether or not I liked a movie.
The movie Spirited Away has an amazing soundtrack. This film is about a 10 year-old girl named Chihiro who is trapped in this alternate universe that is full of spirits and alikes, after her parents ate forbidden food and turned into pigs. Honestly, this movie is absolutely spectacular, and so is the soundtrack. But there is this one piece that I find just a little more special than all the others. One Summer's Day, by Joe Hisaishi. It is, to say the least, brilliant.
The piece starts off with a few soft chords by the piano, as it then starts playing the main theme, with the strings as accompaniment. The melody is lyrical, melancholic, yet drenched with hope. The music then reaches to a little climax, as the piano and strings are joined by woodwinds. But everything quietly settles down as the piano starts off with another beautiful melody. And then there is a complete change of mood. The music is suddenly more unpredictable, more mysterious yet cheerful sounding. And the brass section to their thing, along with some awesome percussion. And finally, the piece ends with a strong string cadence, with the feeling that there is much more to come...
I hope you guys can take a little over 3 minutes of your time to listen to one of the world's most spectacular, show-stopping piece :)
Oh, I love this piece of music ^^ I have not gotten the chance to watch Spirited Away but now I really want to!
ReplyDeleteOh, you should definitely do so! It is so odd yet masterfully crafted.

I've watched a little of Spirited Away. It kind of creeped me out a bit with everything. You know, the drawings and the witch lady and her baby were pretty weird. But it was a very good animation! And the music is spectacular, including this one of the sound track. :) It matches very well to the music because she's trying to change back her parents because they're pigs.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, the music is spectacular! And yeah, the movie is kind of creepy. I remember when I was small I used to be fascinated- yet also scared- of this movie!
