The Good Old Times

Ever since 6th grade, there has always been two distinct girls I have hanged out with in the school bus. Let's call them Bea and Em. So, at school, we aren't really in the same group, occasionally striking up a conversation in class or at recess, but not anything that went beyond that. But in the bus, we were like three good friends, talking, eating (although we aren't supposed to), and having a good time. It felt nice to have two girls to talk to, and to share laughs, even if it didn't go beyond the bus. Well, these past few months, we've had a few new additions to our school bus, and along with the fact that Bea and Em don't take the bus so often anymore, I've seen a whole new dynamic change in the bus. Gone were the days of chit-chatting and sharing food with my friends, and in came a whole new group of people who talked about explicit subjects and insulted people. They weren't like Bea and Em, they did not make me laugh or smile, they just made me frown in disagreement.

But this afternoon, Bea and Em finally had to take the bus. In the beginning of the ride, everything was like usual, with the group of people making rude remarks and snickering at "lame" people. But once they started to file out of the bus one by one, Bea, Em, and I finally made up for some lost time, eating, gossiping, and laughing at the stupidest of things. Sure it only lasted for only about 10 minutes before the bus came to my stop, but it felt like such a long time, and I was grateful of that.

Okay, so this story might seem a little pointless to you right now, but I guess, what I'm trying to say is that sometimes we fail to appreciate what we have until it ends. And right now, I'm looking at those good old times, and I wonder, where have they been? When did they leave me? Will they ever come back, and this time, for a longer time?

But at the end, there is no point of asking those questions. I know that those good old times will never be as good as they were before. And you know, I try to accept that. I try to accept that not all good things can last, that they are not meant to be for forever. That the only thing you can do at the end is just to savor...

and to treasure in your memory...

those good old times.

  2. There are lots of things unforgettable and appreciable. The one precipitating in your mind is the one you deeply appreciate or the one stimulates your bad memory from time to time. Whatever it is, it is a part of your life journey.
